Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
Beat ya to it.
Mods, can we get a thread merge? An interesting statistic is that it took 8 hours to film the last 15 seconds of the commercial. It was quite a large production. |

Nope, but it was neat to experience.

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
Alright, I've played that video about 15 times and I still can't find them (even with the flashing lights). What's the timecode on it, for those of us with a severe case of Apparent Robot Blindness?

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
Nearest I can tell, at 0:48, the robot in the light from the opening doors; at 0:52, to the left of and behind the guy from Star Trek.

I think you and I may be the only two on this forum who don't know the name of the Star Trek guy. High five!

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
I'd rather be well-known for what I do, not for a caricature of something that I'm not even all that excited about.
I saw one orange flashy light apparently showing "waiting for connection", but I couldn't recognize a FRC robot holding it. The darkness at the end of the video makes it very hard to see anything. I just barely recognized the "Star Trek guy" as Data, and only because of about three frames of a distinctive robotic head motion just as the teleporter effect fades out. |

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
Another interesting note is that the guy who drove our 2011 robot for this commercial was one of the builders of the original Johnny 5 robots in the movie Short Circuit.

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
Okay, I must know. Was it actually Brent Spiner there as Data? (or, as it would seem, more affectionately referred to in this thread as "The Star Trek Guy") Because that would be amazing, although I doubt it was actually him. (sorry, geek moment
) |

The name of the droid is Lieutenant Commander Data

Re: Team 696 2011 and 2012 Robot in a GE Commercial
For me, the bad part about doing this commercial is that after seeing it up close in person, now I absolutely must have a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, outfitted as a full KITT replica.
