Re: Resetting the C-Rio

Just to reboot the cRIO, push the reset button once and let go.

The reset button can also be used to boot the 4-slot cRIO into Safe Mode, by holding the reset button down a while.

Re: Resetting the C-Rio

No.
The reset won't clear memory. You have to use the FRC cRIO Imaging Tool to accomplish that.

In unusual cases,
  1. The 4-slot reset can be used to boot the cRIO into Safe Mode, (the 8-slot uses the Safe Mode DIP switch)
  2. Then (while in Safe Mode) the Imaging Tool is used to wipe and reformat the cRIO.
  3. Afterwards, and out of Safe Mode, the FRC image needs to be installed by the Imaging tool,
  4. Then the user code reloaded.

Re: Resetting the C-Rio

You have to get the laptop and cRIO recognizing each other.

Use the FRC cRIO Imaging Tool just to see if it can identify the cRIO.
That doesn't care if the IPs of the two devices are compatible or not. It'll see the cRIO if the connection is working at all.

Try connecting various ways, e.g., direct Ethernet like you tried, or Ethernet through a switch. Don't bother with wireless though.

Re: Resetting the C-Rio

I've had two different 4-slot cRIOs where the network port has gone completely dead, with no link or activity lights even in safe mode. Neither MAX or the Imaging Tool will find them either. And I'm aware of other teams that have experienced the same problem.

The only solution both times has been to RMA the device back to NI for replacement.

Re: Resetting the C-Rio

If you have a low battery, that can be the cause of your connection problem.
You can test the battery under load by powering up the cRIO, then using a multi-meter on the Power Distribution Panel input power lugs to see that you're getting enough voltage. Assuming it's only powering the cRIO (not any motors), then it doesn't have to read 12v, but shouldn't read less than 8v (and that's really too low).

Don't attempt to re-image if your battery isn't above 10v to be on the safe side. If the power dips too low during imaging, then you'll leave the cRIO in a funky state and have to build the cRIO up from scratch, and without reliable power, it'll never get done.

What kind of manual are you looking for?
If you're just looking for instructions on re-formatting the cRIO, then I can write those up for you.
Getting Started with the 2012 Control System is a good general FRC document to start with.
cRIO-9074_OperatingInstr.pdf are the general cRIO I operating instructions.

You probably don't want to pay too much attention to the standard generic cRIO operating instructions. Some of the information applies, but other directions it gives isn't what you should be doing with our special hardware/software setup of the cRIO for FRC. For instance, the NI standard tool, MAX, probably isn't what you should be using without better expert guidance.
