I don't like his introduction. Outliers are not statistics. Exceptional people will do exceptional things.
The average person benefits from "traditional" school. That's a statistic.
I do really like the message though. I picked a college for all the wrong reasons, and luckily managed to get out of it exactly what I wanted/needed. What you really should be picking when you choose a school is your classmates.
A very important mentor of mine didn't go to college & got out of high school as fast and took the first job he could get cleaning barrels in a cabinet shop. He was really all about old airplanes though, and spent 10 years flying the oldest one in the USA, so I think he did a pretty good job achieving his dreams. I don't think anyone could ever accuse him of having stopped learning.
