Re: Frisbees for Ultimate Ascent

Guys, take it from an Ultimate player, all discs are different. Even if they are both Whammo Frisbees, most likely they are not the same.

Whammo produces many different types of Frisbees which all have different weights, sizes, and shapes. Often, the most obvious thing that is different between discs is the shape of the rim. The angle between the rim and the bottom of the disc is different in almost every different type of disc. Also, I noticed that these discs are much rounder than a regulation disc (The top is round compared to a regulation disc's top being flat).

Also the weight of the game discs are 180 grams, where as regulation discs are only supposed to be 175 grams. While this 5 gram difference in weight does not seem like much, I can easily feel and see a difference in how the discs fly. A heavier disc takes more angular momentum to spin at the same speed and it also flies farther.

It's a shame that FRC choose Whammo discs as the game pieces. It would have been one thing for them to use regulation Whammo discs, but these discs are just useless for everything but Ultimate Assault.

When a Ultimate player holds a Whammo in his hands, he just wants to chuck it at something and break the disc. We hate Whammos.
