Loophole for Pyramid Goal

This will probably be fixed by a rule change, but I noticed you only get a 3 point penalty for carrying extra discs and can score 5 for each colored pyramid disc.

That means you could technically carry 6 discs up to the top and score 24 points instead of 20 (30 scored - 6 penalty points).

Seems like it will be fixed by a rule change.

Your thoughts?

Re: Loophole for Pyramid Goal

This idea was brought up at my team's brainstorming session yesterday, and someone said there was rule against intentionally holding discs for that purposeover multiple offenses. I haven't found the rule yet, but as soon as I do I will post it here.

Re: Loophole for Pyramid Goal

Semantics, but it's increase the score margin by 24 (you gain 30, opponents gain 6).

Climbing up the pyramid and then dumping into the pyramid goal will be no easy feat, however. Climbing alone is already proving a very challenging thought exercise, let alone adding something to dump discs in.

Re: Loophole for Pyramid Goal

I don't think FIRST will change it, for two reasons:
a. It's very likely no-one's going to try that
b. A rule that will disqualify that will be too difficult to define, I think FIRST will just prefer giving teams that try that a few extra points (because of a^)

I imagine soon there will be an added line stating "Multiple violations will result in a TECHNICAL FOUL plus a YELLOW CARD."

Re: Loophole for Pyramid Goal

They probably won't change it. It is the same as last year when teams would pick up more than 2 in auto but make all of them so the fouls wouldn't affect them.

I think the refs could justify giving a yellow card using that rule

Considering how straightforward the scoring is, I really can't see the GDC having overlooked this.

Re: Loophole for Pyramid Goal

This loop also applies to autonomous. Speaking of the way the rules were crafted this year. Where is the rule where you can not cause an opponent to incur a penalty? Dump 4 on them when they have four to gain 12... There is no rule saying that a blue robot can occupy a red alliance safe zone and prevent them from accessing 2 feeders. I am not trying to be rude or offensive I just think they could have made this a bit more iron clad.

Are you saying that you want to cross the field to cause an opponent to pick up more than the allowed amount during autonomous?

This will hurt you:
Quote:
3.2.4.1 G19
During AUTO, a ROBOT may not cross the CENTER LINE such that it is no longer in contact with the carpet on its
starting half of the FIELD.
Violation: FOUL. If contact with an opponent ROBOT, TECHNICAL FOUL.
Also, you can go into your opponent's safe Loading Zone, but, you'll get penalized if your opponent also touches the Loading Zone and then touches you:
Quote:
3.2.6.3 G30
Regardless of who initiates the contact, a ROBOT may not contact an opponent ROBOT
A. contacting its PYRAMID or
B. touching the carpet in its LOADING ZONE.
