Talking Noise Makers!!!!

are they good or bad? I know that our team was known for the cowbells last year, and i know MOE sticks were there too.. In fact there is a rule this year about using noisemakers???? We kinda felt bad about that.. not really.. but they were fun!!! what do u think? what kinda of spirit stuff does your team have?

Somewhere in the rules, a request is made that teams do not use noise makers that prove themeselves to be an excessive nussance, or damage the floor. This pretty much sums it up, the occasional noise maker is fine, but the constant banging, whistling and other noises make it hard on the ears, and hard on the mind. Yes, you team is being noticed, but it's not in a good way. It ends up like, "did you see team ---? they were sooo annoying!" This should also put an end to those teams who fill empty pop bottles with beads, and mount them on a stick, which they constantly bang on the floor, shaking the seats ( if it's a stadium with added, modular expansion seats in the front ) and put countless marks on the floor.

Damaging the walls or ceiling is bad too. Just don't be too annoying and I don't think anyone will complain.

They are perfectly fine as long as you stay away from the pit area with them.

For one thing they are very annoying, and for another they can really distract and hinder people working. If someone is trying to talk to someone about something that needs to be fixed before a robot goes out on the field and there is too much 'other' noise, then it can be very hard to communicate.

People trying to write programs usually like to have some peace and quiet so they can think through their code.

I can't really see any good reasons for them. I think though that when used properly, they can add a certain atmosphere at a robot competition, but not in the pits.

Last year we slammed to a SPAM beat during our matches. I don't think it got annoying...

Then our alliance had those hand-clappers... sure they were excessively loud, but they were fun! I was in a total frenzy anyway, why not make a lot of noise? Still, I like old fashioned screaming the best.

What about those clickers the X-Cats (I think) gave out a couple years ago? Those were annoying, and fit into the palm of your hand. And yet, I love those little things.

Why not install a boom box, or a stereo system on your robot? Sure it won't do much, but what would be cooler than a CD player on wheels?

Place your attention entirely on my voice and try to ignore all the others. It is important to be able to focus on a single source of information while blocking out all the other things competing for your attention.

What about having a 10" Sub w/ 500 (i think) amp powering it?

Someone that went to the Canadian Regional had one last year, and they where by our pit (team 5). I liked the techno they where playing, but a few fellow student/engineers really-really disliked it.

Eh, you can't please everyone, but than agian, most humans are easily pleased...

being noticed/annoying

I dunno though. cause see sure they noticed us and stuff, but we were only using them for the use of spirit and hollering and stuff during the competitions. they weren't even used in the pit area. we know how that is, and I didn't think that they were annoying, considering i was around them the entire time, but then again one does create a tolerance. But see, I thought that the MOE sticks were cool? I liked them, very creative. Our team loves spirit stuff though, but we are going to cool it down this year seeing that a lot of people were complain I guess cause of the metal against metal. But i don't see that as different than your mouth yelling at a football game? who knows. probably just different viewpoints. though i do see the point on the damage to the floor.. Hmm.. things to think about. OUr team has been racking our brains for ideas for spirit stuff that doesn't make noises, but once you get past hand-outs and posters? What else? Then again, I guess i am pretty loud and annoying by nature, I probably have a one track mind.

AS MUCH NOISE AS POSSIBLE.

not really.

AUHG! Everytime I saw one on the floor, I stomped on it. Those things were the source of my headaches for every competition that year. (*&#@#

uh...i think noisemakers are cool...it's all in good fun...although i can see how it might get annoying...but if it's all in the spirit of fun then i don't see what the big deal is...but, the rules are the rules...so maybe we can think of some quiet noisemakers (if that's even possible)...

Are they pink or something like that?
Found some in the drawer at the site.
Personally I find those clickers much more obnoxious! We have those lying around as well. I'm trying to keep them out of the kid's hands for sanity sake.
We have wooden clappers with handles that we took to the nationals last year but I remember the look of annoyance on some teams face at the Buckeye regional just because we never shut up. Must of the teams just sat there and stared(Chiefdelphi, DelphiElite and the Robotic Knoghts were the only teams that consistantly cheered). I expect it to be much louder there this year.

MOEStix

Just to let y'all know.

There are no plans to retire our MOEstix this season. They are a source of team spirit and togetherness for our team. We will be more aware of complaints, and may have even more green earplugs to hand out.

However, the MOEStix will be back!!!!!!

(hide the little children)
