Gears for the CIM motor shaft not going on.
We were putting together the toughbox and when we had to put the 14 tooth key gear onto the CIM motor shaft, we couldn't get it on. It seems like the gear is too small to fit onto the shaft. Is anyone else having this problem, or is there any way how to fix it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uloJ0...ature=youtu.be It's recommended that you put the pinion on with an arbor press or a rubber mallet. If you're having trouble getting the pinion started on the shaft, make sure that there aren't any burrs or other surface defects on the shaft or pinion bore. |

At 5:36 in the video, you might want to slip a properly-sized deep socket over the motor shaft and tap on the socket to drive the pinion on, instead of tapping on the edges of the pinion gear. Check frequently to make sure the key is aligned with the keyway in the pinion. Also use a deep socket to tap on the gear at 2:36 in the video. At 4:22 in the video, don't forget to grease the first-stage gear too. |

Re: Gears for the CIM motor shaft not going on.
We put our gears in the oven for a bit around 300 degrees and then use a drill press to push them on. We don't have an arbor press in our shop... Heat is wonderful thing when fitting close fitting parts, just remember not to touch them with bare hands for a while after doing this.

SO.. In the past the gears have always just slipped on. Didn't see the vid before we assembled them so when they didnt just slip on I assumed it was just the plating gone bad causing the problem so we just ran an 8mm drill through them and on the went in the old way. Don't see why this would be a problem, the clip keeps them in place. Thoughts?

Re: Gears for the CIM motor shaft not going on.
We have pressed ours the last three years. Wouldn't mind if thy just slipped on as 8mm drill bits are rare in our school's shop...well, 8mm drill bits and everything else that even resembles a metric tool.
