Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

Suggestion #1: drive the wheels off of it, literally if possible. (Wheels are cheap. The experience will be priceless when you get to the field.)

Suggestion #2: add stuff to the top of the drive base to score points in some way.

Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

Nice, a kitbot. I've seen a lot of teams attempt a custom drivetrain (even rookies!), and they end up failing. The kit drivetrain is very powerful. Get used to this beast until you have resources to start custom designing in the offseason.

Now get working on the other stuff to help you score!

Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

It looks like a great drive train! To be sure you like it, strap weights onto it until you're up to full weight, and drive it around on carpet (similar carpet to a competition field). It should drive a lot differently, not necessarily for the worse, but it's best to check that before competition

Way to go on the running Robot!
Now to shamelessly copy a teammate:
Just adding a single arm to dump discs in the low goal to that robot will put you ahead of about 80% of rookie robots and a chunk of veteran teams as well. In particular, don't try to do everything. Pick one thing and do it well. Veteran teams who try to do everything are often bested by rookie teams that can reliably and consistently drive and score a few points.

You can never be done too early for more testing and practice!

Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

Absolutely. Practice will help you guys out alot.

If you can figure out a way to just even climb for ten points, like the Robot in Three Days, that's very good.

Add good drivers to that (PRACTICE!) and I the ability to play good defense (PRACTICE!) and you're pretty set.

Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

Nice work. Try and get some sort of low pile carpet to drive on. You will notice a big difference in how the drivebase responds. Also, to help make it more like a robot, add 100 lbs of something to it. Again, this will help mimic a completed robot.

If you come to a FRC event to see a robot competition, you are missing the point.

One of the main things you'll see is how well the robot turns, which carpet plays a huge factor into.

Re: Team 4795 Drive train Done!

I cant watch the video (youtube blocked at school -.-) but a quick suggestion that might help:

Don't use 4 normal wheels, due to the carpet. Our first year, we did that and had a HORRIBLE time trying to turn. Last year and this year we changed to having two normal wheels in the front and two OMNI wheels in the back (or vice versa, I forget) so that it turns without any hitches. It's a MUCH smoother system.

Again, not exactly sure which wheels came in the KoP as I cant see your video, but just in case, hope this helps. Good luck, and congrats!

They're running 6 wheels, presumably taking advantage of the built-in dropped center (if it's there). Oh, right: I would highly suggest powering all 6 if you haven't already.
