yes! this is spot on. These guys have set the standard. If your teaser robot pic doesn't show this much progress... don't bother.

Awesome project.

Our team was following the "robotin3days" videos from the start, and we are actually designing a shooter very similar to the one you guys built. Thanks for the help!

I'm interested in that indexer, how easy is it to get the discs from the slots into the robot, and to position the robot so it can get the discs into it?

Re: Robot in 3 Days : Completed Robot Video

After watching the Oscar nominations the other evening, I was disappointed to not see Robot In 3 Days on the list for video and directing. Oh that's right, it wouldn't be eligible until 2013!
Seriously, the video and editing by Mike and Andrew was outstanding and really enhanced the Robot in 3 days operation. Also, it provides great documentation and materials for mentors and educators for future reference. I would like to know more about Robbie's flying car project which kept being mentioned. Is this just a funny topic or one of those projects Robbie is really working on? After watching him in action on the robot project, I don't doubt he could do it. And of course, Dan, as always, is a great emcee, informative yet entertaining.
Cute baby almost stole the show!
Great job, all of you!

Yes, Robby really does work for a company that builds flying cars. We are trying to get the team out for a field trip

Re: Robot in 3 Days : Completed Robot Video

I'm proud to call cute baby my own :-) We are thinking of doing a video just featuring her. Not sure what yet.

Yes, Robby builds flying cars. We are going to try to do some filming at his day job at some point. It's a pretty cool job.

Re: Robot in 3 Days : Completed Robot Video

Well, Robot in 3 days is an instant cult classic. We will be seeing it for years! I think a video featuring cute baby is a great idea and may I suggest a title? How to build a Wobot (or Bobot as she seems to call it both)
Can't wait to see it! And of course would love to see this flying car project that Robbie is working on. Good luck! We all will be watching!

This sounds like a lot of fun! Cute baby won't stop talking about the robot. Maybe we can convince Robby to give a video tour of the Maverick, flying car.

On another note, we've created a new video addressing many of the questions that we've received. We're also giving away free stuff! Ri3d swag and left over parts from our sponsors! Check it out here.

Check it out here.
1) Are you controlling the speed on your shooter CIMs, or just hitting them with whatever voltage the battery has at the moment?

2) Did you do any tests to see what effect changes in battery voltage1 have on the frisbee flight path?

1due to level of charge of the battery and varying levels of current being supplied to other devices on the robot

Re: Robot in 3 Days : Completed Robot Video

Hello CD, so if you saw on our Twitter ( @FRCBacon1902 ) Robot in 3 days is now sitting in our build space to poke at and use as a practice defender bot. if anyone has any more technical questions or want more specific pictures of mechanisms let us know and we can post them. if any team in Orlando wants a closer look let us know and we can figure out how to get it over to you.

did some prelim measurements and weighing, the perimeter without any kind of bumper mounts is about 103.75 inches; the weight without a battery or freebees is posted below.

Ether, sorry for the slow response.

The speed is controlled in terms of percentage. The Canipede allows you to apply a scalar on push button control. In this case we ranged between .75-.9 which I believe is just sending ~75-90% of the batteries voltage, ramping as quickly as possible.

The battery voltage was not recorded at the time. We occasionally tested the batteries with a battery beak and rarely operated with a full charge. As the battery died there was an audible change in the wheels speed but we had no way to measure the difference at that time. We didn't, however, notice an extreme change in performance through our testing but our targeting was hardly optimized.

As a purely subjective observation, the biggest change with a dead battery was spin up time. The wheels seemed to take longer to achieve ~ max rpm and could require some extra time between shots fired. This seems to jive with the response of a dead battery as starting and acceleration current draw should be the highest, while maintenance of speed should be relatively low.

Re: Robot in 3 Days : Completed Robot Video

That is awesome!! I don't mean to tell seasoned FRC people how to solve a problem, but I think you cannot stick your fingers and hand through the feeding slot--so you might consider widening a part of yout easir robot's feeder slot to make it easier to feed frisbees into the robot. Outstanding work all around!! Now Rest!!!!
