Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
This is one of the prototypes that we are pursuing for this year. It's very similar to the robot in 3 days shooter. it shoots about 20 feet or so, we still need to optimize the angle and speed.

Re: Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
I'm curious, why are people going for 2 wheels rather than 1?

Re: Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
one thing you may want to consider is pneumatic wheels, i've noticed in a lot of places that pneumatic wheels (8 inch pneumatic wheels from andymark) work much better, just a suggestion

Re: Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
Such as a form of belting or do you have some other material in mind? Simple answer to your question - wheels are readily availiable and easily interfaced with motors.

The shooter that we built had two timing belts running horizontally, and the frisbee was pushed between them. The frisbee went about two feet, and we determined that there was not enough friction between the belts and the disc. |

Re: Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
Our team is currently prototyping both a linear and curved shooter.
We posted a video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsaWp0URvN4 We used bane bot motors and pneumatic wheels |

Re: Team 1058 2-Wheel prototype shooter
My team has prototyped a flinging arm (skeet disc launcher type thing), a round shooter (about 90 degrees), and a 1-wheel straight shooter. We are currently converting the 1-wheel into a 2-wheel to see if we can improve upon our design. However, that being said, the best prototype so far has been the 1-wheel straight shooter. We set up our shooter on a chair to be at "robot height" and set it at the front of the pyramid on our field and it was rocketing the frisbees into the high goal. Just like last year, the speed your shooter wheel is going effects the spin of the frisbee moreso than the velocity. See if you can whip up a prototype in a PINCH to see what else might effect the end result.
