Is anyone having trouble with the gearbox?

The gearbox that we got from the kitbot has been having problems. When we tighten the gearbo completely, the shaft locks and becomes EXTREMELY diffucult to rotate. We talked to our mentors about loosening the gear box, because it let the shaft rotate more freely on its axis but he also said it had a preset torque setting that we should try to match. Does anyone have any ideas that we can use to solve this problem.. Is anyone else having a similar problem? The collars of the bearings are on the wroong side.. or at least thats whay my teamates tell me but some say it doesn't matter

Re: Is anyone having trouble with the gearbox?

Did you grease the gears and follow the instructions?

Lack of grease magnifies the effects of friction on the system, which reduces efficiency and accelerates wear, as well as cause the symptoms you describe.

When you say "the collars of the bearings are on the wrong side," do you mean that the flanges are on the wrong side? If that is the case, then you will indeed run into issues because 1) the bearing's effective depth inside the gearbox will be different and 2) the bearing will eventually slide off the shaft because the flange is not retaining it.

What did your mentor mean by a "preset torque setting"?

Take it apart and assembly it properly. Nothing less will do.

Does this mean it works now or that you reassembled it and it still doesn't work?
