SmartDashboard.getData() removed from wpilibj

From the Javadocs and wpilibj libraries, it appears SmartDashboard.getData() has been removed from the API. This seems to be against API design, and there is no documentation as to why it was removed. Where can I get the data from something like a SendableChooser that is on the smartdashboard now?

You can get data from a SendableChooser as shown here:
