314 shooter prototype testing

This is video of our shooter as of January 14th. We are shooting the full 54ft of the field and the shooter is 21 inches off of the ground. The blue square on the wall is the height of the 3pt goal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idiqASAt_Y0

And yes, everyone in the room had safety glasses on.

From 27ft away from the wall we were accurate within a 6 inch circle.

Great job and thanks for the video! How does it do for battery life?

Re: 314 shooter prototype testing

We have been using 1 battery a day for testing. Its only one motor being powered but we are shooting on average 80 times on the same battery with no noticeable differences.

Re: 314 shooter prototype testing

Very impressive! Thanks for sharing!

What do you think is making your launcher perform so much better than some of the others? It seems like the same curved design - what's your gear ratio?

That shooter has some distance and height!

Check out my team's shooters; we are prototyping both a curved shooter and linear shooter:

Absolutely amazing. Any chance you'll reveal your magic to us? A picture of the shooter from the front?

The most I can say right now is that the wall for the shooter is made out of lexan.

You guys would have to be crazy to give up this potentially massive advantage by releasing technical details.

Its a very easily blockable shot. Now that they have let the world know they can do it, teams will be waiting for it and be waiting to block it.

It is an awesome achievement no doubt, but not a truly viable shot during matches.

This is a prototype. It is not as high as it Can be off the ground. My team did some calculations, and we do not think that it will be easy/rewarding to try to block shots. Will there be teams who try? Probably. Will they do well at it? We think that is unlikely.

You also have to keep in mind that with our designs we also had our strategies and reasons why we did this. We took into account the full possibity of people blocking shots and for that reason we developed a strategy where our shots can not be blocked.
