Motor Trade

Im not 100% sure if the regs outlaw this, but let me run it by you guys. Our team is going to run the 2 Drill Motors , but lets say that at the comp one of the motors breaks down, could we buy or trade motors with othere teams. Like we give one team a window motor that they need and inturn they give us a drill motor. What I mean to say is can we legaly barder with other teams for money or parts?

Also on the Drill Trans it has the #'s 1-15 whaty are those #'s for and what do I set if at to give me torque?

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!!!!

Those are just the torque limiters to keep you from damaging whatever you might be drilling...

Turn it until it's on the "drill" setting (the candy cane thingy) and it will not use the torque limiter.

Parks is an unknown quantity at this point
motors

You are allowed to have whatever motors you want in your possession.

You can buy twenty drill motors - except only two could be on your bot at one time. It would probably be a good idea to buy extras.

The numbers in the transmission are the clutch mechanism. They stop power being transferred to the output shaft depending on how much resistance the shaft is experiencing.
Mess around with the different settings and notice the difference in when your motors will stop working. Ideally you want to set these on max (the drill symbol) or better yet to block out the whole mechanism.

just remove the clutch. Pry at the top of it, around the output shaft, until A) it breaks into many pieces or B) it comes off, either way, you are better off without it.

This is gracious professionalism:

At a local competition, we destroyed the tranny of one of our drill motors. we had no extras, and thought we were done. Well, noone had any but the poofs, and they immediately gave it to us. They asked for nothing in return, and they let us keep it to. They could have denied us the motor, knowing that we were their biggest threat, but they showed the true spirit of FIRST. Hats off to the Poofs, and every other team, you are the epitome of gracious professionalism.

This is what happens at the competitions. I try to explain this to new members all the time. Other teams are not out to get you, they are out to help you. Numerous times we made a broadcast asking for parts/tools/etc, and within five minutes, there would be people from four teams at our pits with whatever it was we needed.

This is a big part of why I love FIRST

generally at the competition the other teams will do whatever they can to help you, i know last year we gave away two fisherprice motors at no charge, usually it will be a barter if any price at all, money is usually not involved.
