Scoring Confusion in manual

I am confused by two seemingly contradictory statements in the "Game" section of the manual. On page A-5 section SC4 (Scoring Rules):

Bullet 3 states: "... the Red Alliance ball scoring zones are zones 1 & 2"
Bullet 4 states: "... the Red Alliance goal zone is zone 2"

Since you can't score balls that are not in a goal, shouldn't these two bullets agree with each other?

Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

Jeff

...correct, only balls in goals count for points.

However, balls in goals that are in zone 1 or 2 count for points, while the goal itself only counts for points if it's in zone 2.

For example, a goal with 20 balls in it would be worth 20 pts. in zone 1, but 30 pts. in zone 2, because you receive an additional 10 pts. for the goal structure being in a 'goal zone'

I hope that makes sense.

a goal is worth 10 and a ball is worth 1

If you have a goal loaded with 10 balls in zone 2 (your goal zone) you get 20 points (10 for the goal + 10*1 for the balls)

If you have the same goal in zone 1 you get 10 points (10*1 for the balls)

The goal does not get counted for points in zone 1

This whole post assumed you were red aliance.

Scoring Confusion

Woody said something in the explanation, but it is very vague in the manual.

Bullet 3 states: "... the Red Alliance ball scoring zones are zones 1 & 2"
Bullet 4 states: "... the Red Alliance goal zone is zone 2"

What if the goal with 10 balls is in 1 AND 2 (possible this year)?

Does each ball count for 1 point for each zone. Here is the difference:

Goal with 10 balls is in both zone 1 & 2:

(A) balls are 10 points for zone 1, 10 points for zone 2, and goal is 10 points for zone 2. --> 30 pts

or

(B) balls are 10 points for zone 1 or 2 and goal is 10 points for zone 2. --> 20 points

Paul, I beleive that if any part of the goal is over any part of the tape it is considered in goal 2 and NOT in goal 1

Rule Clear on That One

Jordan,

The rule is very clear that the tape is considered both zones.

Its super simple and our FIRST nature is making it more confusing than it needs to be...

If the goal is over the Z1-Z2 line, then common sense dictates that it is in both zones and since one of those zones is the goal scoring zone, then the goal also accrues points.

I do agree though, it would have been clearer if it was written:
Bullet 3 states: "... the Red Alliance ball scoring zones are zones 1 & 2"
Bullet 4 states: "... the Red Alliance ball and goal zone is zone 2"

Balls in goals that traverse zones are never counted twice, due to the way the rule is stated (see 1.2.4 in game.pdf): a ball is counted for one point if the conditions are satisfied. It states it in a manner that, to me at least, makes it clear that balls never get counted twice.
Of course, I could be wrong too. I think it would be cool if I was wrong, in fact. I like these strange quirks in the rules.
