80-20

Do you think 80-20 is quality metal for your robot. We arent using it any more we are using standard aluminum with welds. So fare we have the basic frame done. What do u think about the 80-20??? it can be useful for a prototype.

Its hard to get a better strength : weight ratio out of aluminum.

This is the first time we've used it, but all I can say is a weld is a weld is a weld, there's not way to slide it down 1".

80-20

80-20 is quality material. We've used it on all of our 'bots so far, but this year it just isn't worth it for us.

8020 is good stuff, very easy to reconfigure and relatively cheap. However, it is not the best for bending strength. Lb for Lb, tube is the best due to its greater sectional moments of inertia (Ixx and Iyy).

I've used 8020 for many years for industrial and lab equipment framing and stands without any problems. It really is top quality stuff, as are Item and Bosch, which I have also used in the past. Here's a picture of a stand for a lab robot I recently built. Though it doesn't have to take the pounding a FIRST machine does, it has to hold the 300 lb robot on top of it rock steady day in and day out. And yes, team 103 builds their robots using 8020.

Well, we use 30-30, and let me tell you first hand, that has to be some of the strongest stuff that i have ever seen for the weight factor. After my 1/2 of driving, it still stood up for our other driver. I was greatly amazed, and we still stayed at the weight limit...
