Silver Duct Tape

My team is thinking about using silver (not gray, actually shiny silver) duct tape to decoratively cover some sharp edges on our robot. Would the silver duct tape mess with the sensors for the reflective tape on other robots?

Re: Silver Duct Tape

Probably not, but try to avoid letting it look like any of the vision targets surrounding the goals.
While it is shiny, it's not retroreflective, so it's not much shinier than polished aluminum.

How would I make it not look like any of the vision targets?

Re: Silver Duct Tape

You could try to dull the shininess a little bit by sanding with a fine git sand paper.

I think Don meant shape wise. As he said, reflective is very different from retro-reflective. You are unlikely to have any issue.

Yes, shape-wise.

Re: Silver Duct Tape

I would recommend dulling it anyway. There can be a lot of lights on the field, and I wouldn't want to risk reflecting it into someone's eyes. Although it all depends on the shiny-ness of the tape. And if someone knows the unit for that, I would be thankful if they shared!

Re: Silver Duct Tape

Val,
You won't be using it to hold parts together, right? I alert teams that all duct tape is not the same. Often it is made of conductive materials so you should be sure it won't migrate into electrical parts like the PD and battery.
