Re: pic: 2383 Robot "Ultimate Ascent"

So is this robot a pure climber or is there a scoring mechanism just out of view?

very cool. care to share some of the capabilities and specs? (floor collection, hanging level, etc.) i've noticed a number of teams are going with meccanums this season, what made your team decide to go with them?

If you look closely, you can see what I think is a two wheeled shooter.
Great job on the robot btw.

Re: pic: 2383 Robot "Ultimate Ascent"

Yes, sorry I neglected to post any details about the robot. On the left is the prototype and on the right is the almost completed final robot.

The main rectangular arm type thing is actually a combined shooter/climber. If you look on top of that arm there are a few slots. Frisbees are fed in on the top layer at the human feeder station (no floor pickup) then fall into a hopper (still contained on the rotating rectangular arm) and are shot out with the two white rubber wheels you can see there on the bottom of the arm.

For the climber, there is a simple bar with hooks that you can see going across the arm attached to two chains. This latches on, then other hooks seen lower on the robot base secure to each level as we go and allow the hooks on the chain to rise up to the next level. It efficiently gets 20-points (and from there we are able to shoot frisbees to the top ) and can get to 30 but those secondary hooks don't reach the top bar, so we're still working on a locking device to keep us up there.

So we efficiently stored a shooter and climber in about the same footprint.

Re: pic: 2383 Robot "Ultimate Ascent"

Oh and about the mecanum wheels, they are really great for maneuverability!! Last year was the first time we used them and with such small targets (basketball hoops) and the bridge, moving from side to side was very nice. Our programmers figured out how to work them last year, and we figured that they would again help with maneuverability in shooting this year. But really, I don't think they're as necessary for this game, but still useful.
