Re: pic: 3D Printer

How much did it cost?

Also, rotating images before uploading them is good.

Re: pic: 3D Printer

Here's the 3d printer. Its a bit above $4000 not counting material.
There's also a newer genaration.

This one belongs to the engineering class at our school. We also use the one owned by our sponsor Intellectual Ventures.

I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to. It IS printing in this picture if thats what you are asking. The build platform is up at the top of the compartment.

It holds 3 spools of material in the bottom next to the motherboard thing. It only has 2 spools in this picture.

Re: pic: 3D Printer

We have the BFB 3000 too (same thing, slightly older controller).

The most important thing is not to damage the bed!

We sometimes have problems getting parts to stick without warping, so we are going to build a heated bed sometime.

In the 3d printer "axon" software, be sure to adjust the density before printing parts that will take stress.

It's a pretty good ABS extruder printer, so have fun with your huge print space!

Re: pic: 3D Printer

We've been printing with it for quit a while. As soon as we add a heated build platform it will be a lot better.

I've been experimenting with all the settings in Axon 2, and trying out axon 3.

Axon 3 doesn't give any options at all but it compiles a lot faster.

We run a heated bed on a RepRap, and even then we'll sometimes get warping on large parts. We're thinking a raft setting also helps, but I don't know if we've tried that yet. Not having run on unheated, I don't know how big of a difference it makes... but I do know that having some insulation on the bottom of the heating unit helps speed up turnaround time and gives a more even heating.
