Quoted for truth. One of the few weaknesses of 118's robots lately seems to be robustness. Last year they were breaking wheels every other match. Hopefully they've worked out some of those issues this year.

This robot is amazing, and even I admit to calling them champions after seeing the video the first time, but you can't just hand them a trophy yet. They're good, but that does't mean they're Einstein good.

Plus, there's ways you can stop them. It's not all that hard. You just need some smart playing.

Thumbs up Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2013 Video

Definitely one of the best reveal videos I've seen a long time. The aerial shots and bonus footage at the end (as always) were a treat.

Another prime example of a highly competitive robot from 118. Can't wait to see it in person at Lonestar.

Well, they are Einstein good, they just haven't won Einstein yet. They were on Einstein last year for example. And if it weren't for comm. problems, who knows what could have happened.

IIRC, it wasn't comms, just some gyro issues.

Definitely a robot that's capable of going. it's not going to be easy to beat them, but anything is possible if there's a field as deep as SVR.

Re: The Robonauts 118 - 2013 Video

I guess I'd like to see a bill of materials. If you had to build this robot in the real world it would cost a lot more than $4K. IMHO it's about time FRC started leveling the playing field for teams that don't have a NASA facility to build the robot for them.

The ChiefDelphi community deserves a prize today. It took 128 posts for this type nonsense to appear. I would have guessed somewhere in the 60's.

Yes I would like to see the BOM also, there is no way that they have under 4k spent on this robot.

Simply Beautiful.

So many features packed into such a small space, and amazing reveal footage.

Great work!

Still disappointing that it appears at all... especially when to me it looks like that is just tons of beautiful sheet metal fabrication which is relatively cheap (less COTS parts and smarter design reduce cost). I would guess most robots cost more than this one actually.

It doesn't matter how much in total was spent all that matters is how much the value of the components is, and I can say that this robot does not look like over 4k at all to me, especially because it is all custom parts by the look of it which is just material cost (aka cheap).

Also why bring down a great robot if you are worse than it, I feel better if I am worse than a totally amazing robot; calling it anything less than that just simply brings you down and does not do anyone any good. its pointless and self-defeating to focus on how bad the great robots are when you would be better off focusing on what makes your robot good and and aspiring to become great.

You should check out the cost of raw materials. If you make all your own components, robots become quite inexpensive.

I agree, if your team lived near a huge potential you would run after it too. Don't criticize them for what they have, learn from what they do.
