DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) selected Open Robotics University's "Rescue Response Team" to participate in 2013 DARPA Robotics Challenge. 1st Prize is $2,000,000.00. Top notch FIRST mentors, coaches, and students are invited to join its team. Since Open Robotics University is an open source university, individuals not enrolled in the university or not members of faculty can join their team to design software and robot for the competition. You may download the simulator to be used to design the robot at: http://gazebosim.org/wiki/InstallDRC Also visit DARPA website for technical information, discussion forum, and rules for the competition at: http://www.theroboticschallenge.org/about.php . If you plan to join their team, please post a message here. You may visit their website at: http://www.openroboticsuniversity.net/ . For reference, here's the DARPA solicitation on FedBizOpps.gov (DARPA-BAA-12-39), and here's DARPA's page about the challenge.

Can you clarify which track you registered for, and what the schedule is?

Open Robotics University is registered for the track C “Virtual Robotics Challenge” which focuses on using DARPA simulator to design the robot. Top six teams from the Virtual Robotics Competition in May of 2013 will be provided hardware in June 2013 for the track D robot hardware design competition. Whether placed in top six or not, Open Robotics University is also pre-registered for the track D competition. Which means the university would provide is own hardware for Track D robot design. The completion will be judged early 2014. The winner will receive $2,000,000.00. Open Robotics University has a global footprint but headquartered in Ohio. Since it is based on open source model (www.openroboticeuniversity.net) any talented individuals can join its team. The team’s name on DARPA tracking spreadsheet for the competition is “ORU Disaster Response” It plans to use Google Hangout on AIR as medium of communication for team members to develop software for the competition. For the hardware portion, it would use combination of Google handout and Meetup for hardware development. Having served as both coach and mentor with FIRST, I think top notch members of the FIRST community working with top notch Open Robotics University’s global open source roboticist is capable of winning the DARPA Robotics Challenge. Active participants would share in the prize money. If you are interested, please post a message here.

DARPA Robotics Challenge is one of the four tuition free courses offered at Open Robotics University. You can still join the courses. Open Robotics University was selected to participate in track C of the DARPA Robotics Challenge. We have from now until May to design a virtual robot using DARPA simulator. The top six teams will receive Funds and Hardware to compete in the Track D competition. The first prize is $2,000,000.00 (two million dollars). This class will focus on designing the virtual robot for the competition and will you receive a university 3 credits at the completion of the course on May 28th, 2013.
We invite members of the FIRST community to join our build team.
Check out the courses.

**Services of Experienced Robotics Engineers needed**
DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) selected Open Robotics University's "Rescue Response Team" to participate in 2013 Track C of the DARPA Robotics Challenge. Since Open Robotics University is an open source university, individuals not enrolled in the university or not members of faculty can join their team to design software and robot for the competition. So the challenge for GrabCAD community, Open Source Robotics Community and FIRST Robotics Community is to develop a winning design for the DARPA Robotics Challenge. GrabCad engineers or any individuals can also join the team made of Open Robotics University students and Faculty members (here is a link to Open Robotics University Community Course designed for the challenge: (https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/116933...33117492450308) to design the virtual robot for the competition. You may download the simulator to be used to design the robot at: http://www.theroboticschallenge.org/aboutsimulator.aspx
Also visit DARPA website for information for thecompetition at: https://www.theroboticschallenge.org/Forum/default.aspx
You may visit DARPA Forum Page at https://www.theroboticschallenge.org/Forum/default.aspx
