How do you wear buttons at competitions?

As build season comes to a close, all I can think about is competitions. This year (and the next two after that), I will be attempting to collect more buttons than one of my team's alumni, who is now a mentor. Anyways, I really need a cool, creative idea for wearing my buttons at competitions. I thought of a cape, but that would probably end up being too heavy once I accumulated a large amount of buttons. So, how do you guys wear buttons, and what do you think I should try?

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

1) I always wear them down my pants, leaving my shirt clear.

2) I have always wanted to decorate a cape with them, but have never had the opportunity. It would be fun to do.

3) A really big hat decorated with buttons might also be nice and fun. I might have to try that as well, provided it didn't buckle form the weight.

A lab coat was a favorite for one of the more enthusiastic button collectors on my team.

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

I also use a lab coat. It does get heavy.
One of these days I want to get a heavy material lab coat to put all 12 years of buttons on it.
How heavy would that be?

Since I'm the mascot, I rarely wear them, but when I do, I stick them to my long monster tongue!

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

One of our alums used a giant sombrero hat to collect them.

You could always use a sash.

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

we (my normal room mate and best friend since before kindergarden and I) make belts/ shoulder straps out of duct tape and put all of our buttons on those. I can make them at cost for other FRC teams if you send me your team colours and address in a PM. I will take cash or check for them at $5 each belt. All procedes will go to Team 180 SPAM.

I also make inner tube skirts that I can send to people. Please dont hesitate to send me an idea and if i can make it, you can get it.

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

Our safety captain uses a safety vest, but otherwise I find that a shirt is fine. Then again, only 2 tournaments doesn't give me that many badges. Maybe a combination of the 2?

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

I've been talking to some of my team members, and one of them highly reccomends sashes.
But, he has also seen fishing vests and other things of the sort.
I also happened to see someone mention a lab coat, which is a pretty good idea.
I have one, so I may end up doing that...

I used fishing vests in the nationals in 2001, and 2002. I think I got a button, bandanna, pen, mousepad, cd, stickers, etc from all but 2 teams each year. I filled the vest, my id badge lanyard, and hat each year.

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

I always liked the idea of doing a duct tape bandolier... crossed belts...
I have never seen anyone do that...

Personally I don't wear them ...just a personal choice not a condemnation of those that do by any means..... its fun to see the students with tons of buttons all over their clothes...

buttons ... I don't need no stinking buttons.....

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

I have only been to one tournament, but I put them on my denim jacket. I also saw someone else with a jacketfull of pins. But if I do go to nationals, I am making a duct tape sash for them. My pins are currently on my backpack

Re: How do you wear buttons at competitions?

I have a custom made "vest" that goes almost to the floor. Right now it weighs over 16 lbs and has no duplicate buttons or pins. Word of advice, don't wear it all day. Max I wear is 1-2 hrs/day. I also do not go looking or ask for pins. Teams just come up and add them.
