Re: Week 1 Friday Night Stats

Why do most of these have the #1 team with about 60, and the #2 team at under 40? What's going on with that?

OPR is pretty good at having wicked outliers when you have a poorly conditioned matrix (fancy math word for not having played with enough partners). As more matches get played and teams have more alliance partners the distribution will be more closely gathered around the middle of the data. It could be true that each regional has one really good team as well, I was at work all day and have no idea how the events went!

Stratification at the top is not uncommon for a game that does not run into supply issues on the scoring piece.

Re: Week 1 Friday Night Stats

These 65-team regionals we have this year (there are what, 4 of them?) are going to have some wicked outliers because they are only playing 8 matches and will not even play with or against everyone in the field once. Regardless, if I had to rank the top 5 teams today at each event based on what I saw, their positions would be similar. 610 is wrecking it, 4451 is blowing up Palmetto as a rookie... it's nuts how good you are this year if your robot is, well, good.

Palmetto, New York City, Orlando (63), Virginia, Los Angeles, 10,000 Lakes (63), Seattle (64), Alamo (61) Chesapeake (64) are the regionals I found that have over 60 teams. You were indeed correct that there are four regionals with 65 teams.

Just my $0.02 I think a reason is some of the robots that have floor pick-ups are able to get more disc (the 60s+) ,and score more points giving them a higher OPR than great robots that dont have floor pick-ups(around the 30s).
