Does anyone happen to have video of Qual match 35 at CVR?

1422 let out the magic smoke, BIG TIME! !

Any idea what caused it?

Speaking of video, does anyone know the status of the CVR webcast?

Saw it active briefly this afternoon during a great match with 1323 and 973, but it dropped out right in the last 30 seconds and I haven't seen it up since. Sounds like they may have bigger problems to worry about over there.

I heard it was a Spike relay that caught fire. They used an extinguisher to put it out. Then 1422 replaced the part and went out the their next match and won.

Re: CVR 1422 fire ball

Yeah our team in the stands was shocked to see them back out for their next match because of the fire. We thought it was more serious. Very impressive of 1422 to overcome such an obstacle though.

Re: CVR 1422 fire ball

My name is Stephanie and I am the head mentor for 1422. I would just like to add that today was one of the most memorable days for my team. We had the highest score for the regional (123 points, baby! Match 17), and we set our robot on fire AND fixed it in 15 minutes AND didn't miss a match. What could be better? I'm really proud of the group of kids and mentors we have this year. I would especially like to thank our local friends, FRC Team 1671, the Buchanan Bird Brains; they really helped us out by letting us borrow their spike. We would also like to thank the inspectors who helped us deduce that the issue was a fluke with the spike and not anything wrong with our robot / wiring (Thank God), and the field personnel who had the clarity of thought to not douse our robot with the fire extinguisher so as to minimize damage to the rest of the bot (of which there was none). These people are all the reason we love FIRST, so thank you to all that helped.

Here's a snap shot of the spike. We plan on getting it framed.

Re: CVR 1422 fire ball

Do you still have the faulty Spike? I'd bet that Al Skierkiewicz and the Innovation First crew would like to inspect that relay.

Re: CVR 1422 fire ball

It was powering the compressor. And yes. we do. we intend on framing it. I'd love to deduce exactly what went wrong. the inspectors had a few different theories about what internally when wrong.
