Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
Hello all,
After catching up on some sleep we proudly present our machine to the rest of the world: This year we have had almost complete 12/7 access to a full machine shop allowing us to create the best machine we have had since our rookie year in 2011. This is also the first year we have gone off the Kit Frame and machined our own WCD drive, coming off from our off season success with almost the same design. We thank all the members, mentors and parents that have committed their time to make this happen, as well as our mainsponsors: SAIC, Nordson, Qualcomm and MakerPlace. Also to the various teams that have helped out us with parts and design. The Drive: video The popular West Coast Design: 2x1 Box with riveted gussets WCP SS Gearboxes Geared for about 14FPS WCP Live axel hubs and 4 inch Colson wheels Custom machined GT2 5mm pulleys for drive, C-C + .005 for belt runs; has run beautifully for hours of practice. Shooter: Mini CIM geared up 2x using WCP gears GT2 3mm Drive 4 inch colson wheels with WCP hubs up to 10,000 RPMs BangBang Controller with KOP Encoders Fixed Angle hits all 3 goals and the pyramid 3 Disk Auton Routine (may add more depending on time) Loader and Intake: 550s and BAG CIM with VersaPlanetary Gearbox GT2 3mm Drive Custom Machined Pulleys for surgical tubing runs Holds up to 4 disks Intake allows for ground pick up Hanger: Two 2inch bore 6 inch stoke cylinders with hooks allows for level 1 climb Can climb after the buzzer Under 2 seconds to lift off the ground In addition our build blog is now public: http://ultimate3647.tumblr.com/ Mostly just a photo dump of our progression. We will be at San Diego Regional and Inland Empire. Hope to have some fun matches and see everyone there. If you have any questions feel free to ask, we have nothing to hid. ![]() Last edited by Mk.32 : 06-03-2013 at 03:28. |

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
I wish we could have built the entire in 3 days..............
The design process was influenced by the robot in 3 days group, and we would like to thank them for there amazing work to inspire and show what is possible with a simple design. We agreed early on we wanted to be able to shoot every goal on the field mostly at close range (decided full court shooters would be blocked way to easy), have floor pick up and be able to hang at least the first level. After some thought going with juts level 1 allowed us to focus on the rest of the machine especially with auton being worth so much. I am quite glad we got the intake working as well as we did after seeing the week 1 events. |

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
Nice! Are your cylinders spring loaded? We used 1.5" no-spring cylinders and had a problem building enough pressure to pull up to the bar. We could do it, we had to let our air build up after we put the hooks in the "up" position. Looks great guys- good job with the floor intake, wishing you a successful competition season!

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
I see, that's where we go wrong- we use air for every shot as well as our hopper. With that onboard compressor, you guys must be fine.

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
We were thinking about doing some kinda kicker for our shooter but decided like last year just a belt that ends as the disk enters to shooter would work fine. Also we have just learned to ALWAYS put the compressor onboard, last year we didn't and it was just a big hassle to deal with before matches and to find all the micro leaks.

Really sweet robot this season, Mark. You should be extremely proud of the work you do for your team.
Wish you the best of luck dude! |

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
Nice build.
Here is a thought: add some latex tubing pulling 'down' on the cylinder rods. You always have enough pressure to extend, so extra force won't be a problem, but that same force will help lift you with less than 35 psi... |

Re: Team 3647: Ultimate Ascent Robot
Unless you shoot at a steep angle, you can get blocked, but what I meant was that even with some tough defense, full court shooter can still win with proper teamwork. We'll definitely be bringing some pool noodles as well!
