One hour Chassis?

Our bot was rolling by the end of week two and driving by last thursday. We used one of the aluminum tube and other 1/4" aluminum sheets. I hope we can stay under weight though, our frame and drivetrain weigh about 60 pounds.

It is pretty sweet, we also got our full size ramp on wednesday so we got a chance to drive over a couple times. One of our joysticks calibration won't work so we have to get FIRST to get us a new one.

We start work on our arms tommorow. This has been our 4th or 5th idea for our arms and I hope we stick with it. GO RAIDERS!

A very basic chassis that takes nothing into consideration can be done pretty easily, but a chassis that is suitable for fitting all the stuff that needs to be on the robot takes much longer.

I think that it took the engineers at the kickoff a lot longer than an hour.

I think they came in with someparts pre done, along with an extensive know-how of the parts and how to build it quickly.

They said they had some holes pre-drilled. I still think that they knew how to build it before hand. I think that it takes longer for us to build the robots because we did not know the parts, and had to actually take the time to work with it and figure it out.

Hey on the other hand, at the kickoff all the bots didn't work anyway. LOL

I still think that "Full Chassis In One Hour" thing is flaud.

It takes me 1 hour to drill two holes, as my teacher-moderator said.

If you are using 80/20 or Bosch extrusion, you can very easily put together a frame in one hour. However, cutting the extrusion, and milling the ends (helps make it perfectly square) takes a lot longer. Update on our status: As of Thursday, we had the bas level and two wheels mounted. As of today: we have the base level and four wheels mounted... Shows our progress eh

We had to rebuild our chassis because the original one had been welded incorrectly. It took four hours for 3 programmers to cut and drill it.

our chassie isn't exactly the same as the cookie cutter one, but it still took us 4 hours and we are less than half done.

The bit that the wheels actually attach to was done in an hour or two . . . but the actual stuff supporting everything is built into other systems so much that the people building those systems were given the additional task of designing the chasis components that would support their system. So . . . the chassis was the last thing to go together, really, and took a lot more than an hour.
