Woah... I thought this was FRC and almost died. In fact, maybe I did. Please never use omni ever in FRC.

Care to explain why? I've seen some dominant omni wheel-using FRC robots (1501 in 2010 springs quickly to mind), and lots of very effective 4wd, 6wd or 8wd drivetrains use omnis.

We are really happy you liked it. We in fact know about Mechanum wheels, but as they are not officially out for the Tetrix platform, this has been our alternative for the past few seasons, well see about building ones for next season,

Greetings

We agree, and we believe OMNI wheels are a great alternative (specially in FTC) to Mecanum wheels, as this are inexistent in the Tetrix platform

Greetings

Re: Ultimate Omni Drivetrain - UOD

Omni wheels and omni drives are highly effective in FTC. Because of the restrictions on motors and fabrication, it's very hard to make a drivetrain that's very effective. i did see a swerve drive at a qualifier i went to, but the operators were not comfortable driving it. Props to getting an omni system built and programmed.

Re: Ultimate Omni Drivetrain - UOD

Nice build, love the high speed build cycle.

A change you might want to think about is adding support on both sides of the wheel. The current cantilever of the wheel stresses the motor bearings. With these out in the open there is the chance of high speed impact breaking the motor.

Yes, OMNI Drives have been quite effective for us, but they do require A LOT of practice (like anything) from the drivers. Thanks a lot, we are glad you liked it

Greetings

You are absolutely right, we will try to implement support on the outside side of the wheels on the next version of the chassis. We are glad you liked it!

We used Omni in 2011 and were finalist at Lone Star.

It has been done in FRC before and been pretty successful.

Amazing video guys!! I see you also do VEX along with FTC. Are you using this same drive for VEX?

We personally have no experience in FRC so we wouldn't know :P (but I imagine it works as good as it does in FTC). We do also compete in VEX (we are team 4131, you can see us at the World Championship), and we didn't opt to use OMNIs there, we actually use Mecanum. We are happy you liked it,

Greetings
