Re: 30 Point Climb Club

We (2013) made multiple sucessfull 30 point climbs at gte, also trying to make a double 30 point climb with our alliance partner 2994, which was unsuccessfull, but our alliance did get a total of 60 climb points in one match with us getting 30, 2994 getting 20 and 781 getting 10 against, 1114, 2056 and 1325.

Also to note that the robots must be able to overcome the tolerances of the pyrimids (which are not precise) which is the reason we cannot always make our 30 point climb along with other robots because the angle of every corner could be different

This is something that concerns me, guess we'll find out how accommodating our design really is out on the field.

Re: 30 Point Climb Club

The pyramids atleast at gte were relativlely flimsy, on one of our climbs the pyramid separated and one our hooks disengaged and we almost fell.

Edit: I added a picture of one of our 30 point climbs at gte

I believe one of the officials said that the pyramids are accurate within half an inch. They are also not bolted/welded together.

Re: 30 Point Climb Club

GSR pyramids where very strong. We made our robot to be a very tight fit once up on the 30 point rail. The pyramid bars would separate by about 1", never to a point where it would affect our climb. We would swing on the second bar to a point the crowd thought we would fall off.

In the FIRST competition you have to realize that nothing is within tolerances. You have to make your robot to overcome big tolerances. Everybody I saw that ran up to the first bar to hang could not in the beginning due to the height of the lower bar. But most if not all fixed that problem. So teach the team to adapt to anything that could happen to the field or rules. It will make a better and less stressful time.

Re: 30 Point Climb Club

As correctly posted above, TJ2 was able to successfully climb the pyramid and dump for 50 points numerous times throughout the Boston Regional. Even though during Saturday's qualification matches we had climbing trouble, we were gratefully picked by the excellent alliance of 846 and 3137. Our alliance eventually reached the finals to face the unstoppable force of 125, 126 and 1511, where we finally were able to reach the top of the pyramid for the 50 point climb and dump for the first time in the elimination matches. Although we lost the match, we were happy to finally complete our strategy at the most perfect and critical time possible. The recorded live stream of the very exciting finals can be seen here:

Provided by Team 125.

(The 30 point climb and dump I mentioned begins at about 19:00)

Great job to all teams that attended. It was, once again, an awesome Boston Regional!
