Thumbs up Re: 1986 Robot POV Video

Definitely one of the best robots I've seen this season, and amazing execution of a great design!

Re: 1986 Robot POV Video

This is awesome. I've seen these GoPro videos from 2809 and 1902 and it really give you a great perspective on the game and shows you how good these teams' drivers really are. I'll try and convince the 610 students to do one on Practice day at Waterloo if we have the time

I think it was 105 total but who's counting. Yes there were some better matches, we only filmed a few.

I'd like to use that as a training video for our drivers to see how it's done correctly... Great machine, driving and video!!!
I am glad it is recognizable as great driving and not just a good robot. The robot has potential in its basic functionality, much of which is the same as many other robots. It is the two pilots that make it sing, without them it's just $40 worth of aluminum.

That is one of the coolest things I have seen in a while. The driving is amazing.

Here's what it looked like from the outside (match starts at 3:08), courtesy of more.net.
That's the count I got too. I'm not sure what our "best" performance was. We think we can get to 122 consistently by champs (42 auto, 60 teleop, 20 climb). The machine will climb to 30 depending on how much time is left after the 5th set of discs. I know we could get a 6th set of discs if we risked not climbing at all and only faced light defensive pressure.

We've got some kids on the team that are pretty good at math; maybe you could get some help from them?

Much too late for that. I blame Mrs. Miller, my 1st grade teacher, for experimenting with "new math" in 1968.

Re: 1986 Robot POV Video

Are all of the fields marked by dark tape and/or tire tracks like what's seen in that video? If so, there are tons more points of reference on the field than I originally thought. Parallax for line-up will be almost non-existent (heavy sigh, we don't compete until weeks 5 & 7).

Both Hub City and Greater KC had dark tape to keep the extra pyramid carpet connected to the main carpet.

The tire-tracks in the center of the field might just be shadows from the pyramid bars or side net bars and the overhead lights.

In Hub they tried to mark the starting locations of the discs with a small piece of tape, but most ground pick-ups scraped the tape up along with the discs. You'll see some X's marked with sharpie on the carpet instead to mark those positions.

PS. In match 25 we did score 110 points. 42 in Auto, 48 in teleop (9, 9, 9, 9, 12) and 20 climb.

Re: 1986 Robot POV Video

All of the apparent lines other than the taped carpet seams are shadows from the field lighting. The square carpet under the pyramids is defined in the field drawings, so it and the primary longitudinal and lateral carpet seams should be fairly accurate reference points.

Re: 1986 Robot POV Video

Just a quick GoPro tip if you can get something in the frame of the shot it makes the video much easier to watch. Something that does not move and stays put n frame. Its something i always try to tell people using them. It makes a world of difference when just a little bit stays put. Still a great video and robot. I have some GoPro footage from the drivers POV now everyone can see what it looks like from the driver station.

I didn't attach another mic. It was the internal mic. I believe the Hero 3's have improved audio quality.

Thanks for the tip! I just recently got it, so I haven't had much time to play with it.
