Kitbot wheel durability
So ah this happened after we were rammed by 1114 in the side at waterloo.
We are a standard wide kitbot with 2 cims and lunacy wheels in the back so I would say this is normal FIRST usage. Has anyone else had this issue? Edit: Here's the video http://watchfirstnow.com/archive3.php?id=62472528 It happens around the 1:10 mark Last edited by mman1506 : 22-03-2013 at 22:22. |

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
I've seen hubs tear out of similar wheels, back in 2007, under repeated side loads (and we weren't the only team seeing that). Andy and Mark fixed the issue for 2008 and later. Never something like this though.
I bet AndyMark would just love to see the wheel for this one, along with a description of the impact (or a video) and of the drivetrain. See my comment about the 2007 wheels. |

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
One of ours broke during our second district event (Detroit) last weekend. Not sure exactly how it broke, as the students handled changing it out while I was managing the students who were scouting.

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
Our KOP wheel broke exactly the same way at Waterford when Team 67 hit us sideways. It was only our 7th match. The students switched it out very quickly because of our design. I now have quite a few of them ready in case it happens again.

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
This was a fairly standard failure of the older skyway wheels, which I believe were the basis of the new traction wheel. I seem to remember a lot of them failing in 2007.

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
The hub failure I referenced earlier, Tom. Essentially, repeated heavy side loads could cause the hub to tear away from the spokes. (469's swerve and 330's rear wheels in a 6WD skid took quite a beating--Mark picked up one in the process of failing after San Diego eliminations.)

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
![]() Lenape district, 87 had us cornered and continued to drive into us, I'm guessing they have an amazing drive because they drove up our bumpers and landed on our drivetrain and were stuck in tow for the majority of the match. Once they broke loose we noticed our robot would shake violently when we tried to drive, turns out it was from this. Not sure if it was the initial impact or something from towing them around, but this is the result. Also, 1. no penalty was called for them clearly being latched onto our robot and being towed around 2. no penalty was called for damaging our robot 3. no penalty was called for contacting us as we were attempting to shoot while touching the pyramid. what gives? |

Re: Kitbot wheel durability
We broke 3 of these. We finished the last round of the finals with only 5 wheels. It could have cost us the Sacramento Regional. Will be talking with AndyMark.
