It gives you time to figure out what to do when allied with them and build up your score. If your robot is truly great than let people see it and worry.

By knowing what they can do, you can easily create a strategy for if they were with you. Although I plan as if my partner would not be able to show up, and then at competitions I ask what they want to do and then we modify it into something that works
Yes, it is fun. Its fun to watch the students expand their thinking and look outside the "normal" and watch their thoughts explode! Its also fun to watch the mentor's minds fry trying to out think the students.;) - Robert Cawthon [more]
