Autodesk Box

Has anyone else not recieved their Autodesk software yet? It's really hurting us to not be able to start working on that half of the competition, and I was really wondering if it was just us.

Ah...so you're having the same problem as me. I contacted FIRST about it a couple of days before kick off and they said they would talk to Autodesk about it. Then I heard from someone else that said Autodesk didn't send it out to quite a few teams and that they started to ship them out again on Thursday. But, you're right, it would be nice to have it. ::sigh:: I want my software!

We got ours today...

I'm just wondering who'll have time to master 3D Studio from the manuals in the box and from the workshop. Lets be realistic...for rookies into 3D Animation with such a top heavy app like 3DS MAX its not possible to crank out an awesome piece of work in a few weeks.

Good Luck to all

To store and render a 30 second add is beyond the capacity of many computers all though hard drives are getting larger and the price is getting lower, but even so. Make sure your system can hold the program and then produce it.
Keep it simple to begin and then add to it. Watch out for reflections and shadow mapping, this can add "days" to your rendering speed.

Ok Nick I'll ask the question here and in the awards section?

This may be a stoopid question but.....
Is it a requirement to use an Autodesk product in the design of the Animation Award????????? After all it is the Autodesk award is it not???

Just Curious.

I tell you Im not sure, I pondered that question for the last three years. What we did in the past was construct the basic out line and skeleton poligons and then view the motion paths.
Then I would Render the scene in Lightwave because the school computers wouldnt render in time due to their lack of speed. We did what we could with what we had.
The submission form asks what equipment was used to make your animation and doesnt say that only "their" product is to be used. As far as animations go Auto Desk is not an easy program to use.
So again, Im not sure. We could ask.

In the rules, it specifically says "3dsmax and other Autodesk products"...to what degree they'll inforce this(for reasons such as creating textures, etc.) remains to be seen...
