The webcast was certainly crazy to watch for the eliminations. Lots of close matches.

Re: 2013 Midwest Regional

Pwnage I loved your robot. We were rooting for you guys.

We did a lot better than we thought we would. At WI Regional we played mostly defense mainly because the teams we were paired up with were pretty decent. We only scored when we had to.

At this regional we found ourselves in a lot more tougher matches where our alliance members mainly played defense. We decided to be the scorers in most of our matches because we were scared of the super power teams. Little did we know we turned out to be one of them!

A special thanks to team 3940. We couldn't have done it without you guys.

Re: 2013 Midwest Regional

Jibri, congrats on your great performance at Midwest! #1 seed and semi-finalists, an awesome showing. You lost to a tough champion alliance.

I was a little surprised to see you guys select your bot to be the 'blocker' against 2512's full court shooter, since you had a strong shooting performance (7th highest OPR at the event). What was your guys' strategy on this? Was it because of your drivetrain's abilities? I felt that maybe 2010 would have been a better blocker choice...?

The reason why we were the blockers was because we got inspected Thursday with the detachable blocker and it was already built. If you watch seeding match 2, that's when we first used it catching 2512 totally off guard. We were attempting to make a blocker for 2010 but we couldn't make a blocker that blocks from two directions in time.
The reason we needed a two-directional blocker like the one we had is because we found that defensive robots protecting a full court shooter tend to force a bot to turn sideways.
Not only that but we lost the quarterfinals in Milwaukee due to not efficiently blocking a full court shooter. Over spring break our driver and I, (our shooter) practiced some defensive strategies against full court shooters and a defensive bot. We had the most experience against them on our alliance.

I think us and 648 could of out scored 71 but we had to play defense to stop a score of like 200 or something.

Btw I think our TP could have been a little higher but we had a lot of really tough matches where we were the main scoring or the only scoring robot. There were a lot of close calls for us but we got the job done, probably because of the defensive capabilities of our alliances

Re: 2013 Midwest Regional

Congratulations to the Champions, 71, 2512 and 2709. You all played great all weekend, and deserve to be at the Championship.

There were several great rookie teams there, and I'm sure that picking ones for Rookie All-Star and Inspiration was a very tough decision. Congrats to 4645 and 4787 for picking up those honors.

Also contratulations to 1675 and 2704 for winning CA and EI respectively. Obviously this is a reflection of your great programs.

Thanks to our alliance partners in the eliminations, 101 and 3940. You both played great all weekend.

Finally, thanks to all the volunteers at the Midwest Regional. It was well organized, and a lot of fun!

Though not in attendance at this regional, congratulations to all the winners! Special congratulations to UPS! Way to represent Wisconsin! ;] The judges could not have picked a more fun, inspiring, hard-working, and deserving team. Good luck as you continue on to St. Louis!

Re: 2013 Midwest Regional

A big congratulations to the winning alliance, FIRST Teams 71, 2512 and 2709. This alliance really showed the synergy that makes a Champion alliance. None of the teams was the highest ranked, but having the decimating cross-field shooter, a splendid robot to defend the cross-field shooter, and a robot with excellent field scoring capability and a reliable 30 point climb freed up by the first two robots proved to be an unbeatable combination. Very well done, and it was exciting being beaten by you! I suspect we will see this type of alliance(s) on Einstein.

Our team loves and respects UPS/1675. We felt sad when the description of the Chairman's Award team meant we didn't win, until we found out is was you! You totally deserve this! Will the award be placed on the altar somewhere at Renee's wedding?

Wildstang, we so wanted to be allied with you! A tie??? Really??? You should hold your heads high, you and Gear It Forward 2338 were the teams to beat at this regional. We hope to see you at R2OC in Rockford in August, and at the Flapjack Challenge in December in Winnebago.

Best. Idea. Ever.

Thanks for the congratulations everyone, I think I can speak for the whole team when I say we are beyond honored to receive the award.

This regional was an exhausting and exhilarating one. A magical schedule let our team try our hand at 3 regionals this year and I don't think I want to try it again anytime soon. Midwest continues to be my favorite regional, though (especially when more of the usual WI suspects show up ).

Special thanks to Winnovation for opening their shop to our kids last week. We were on spring break and a few of our students took it upon themselves (with some mentor help) to design a shooter because our climbing functions didn't end up working out. By Saturday we were pretty consistent on auton 4-points! Expect to see some more in a few weeks .

Shoutouts to Wildstang and Winnovation for training up a couple great students who are attending MSOE this year and helping us out as mentors. Those 2 have taught all of us more than they know!
