The accusation itself isn't what upsets a lot of the people who get vocal when it happens. The upsetting thing is that the
accuser thinks that mentor involvement is a bad thing and worthy of accusation.
Mentors are at the foundation of FRC. Students shouldn't be expected to design and build amazing machines without working side by side with engineers and toolmakers and skilled technicians (and teachers and business professionals and experienced administrators and...).
The best teams I know of have robots that are designed and built by the
team.
