Team Update 4-9 & VEX BAG Motor Fix

Quote:
Motors & Actuators
R33

There is an issue with the VEX BAG Motors supplied in the Kit of Parts (lot numbers 2491BL, 2462BL, and 2493BL) that causes the motor to stop working. VEX has published instructions, now legal per R33, regarding the fix.

The integral mechanical and electrical system of any motor may not be modified. Motors, servos, and electric solenoids used on the ROBOT shall not be modified in any way, except as follows:

A. The mounting brackets and/or output shaft/interface may be modified to facilitate the physical connection of the motor to the ROBOT and actuated part.
B. The electrical input leads may be trimmed to length as necessary.
C. The locking pins on the window motors (P/N: 262100-3030 and 262100-3040) may be removed.
D. The connector housings on the window motors (P/N: 262100-3030 and 262100-3040) may be modified to facilitate lead connections.
E. The Integrated Encoder Module (P/N: 276-1321) may be installed on the VEX 2-wire Motor 393 (P/N 276-2177).
F. The VEX 2-wire Motor 393 (P/N: 276-2177) gears may be changed or replaced per the Supplier instructions.
G. The VEX BAG Motor (P/N: 217-3351) may be repaired per the Supplier instructions found at http://www.vexrobotics.com/217-3351.html.

Game Manual
Good Luck to all Teams competing in Week 7 Events!
Link to repair instructions: http://content.vexrobotics.com/vexpr...structions.pdf

You will have to disassemble the motor.

It's very cool that there is definite fix to the problem and that FIRST is allowing us to perform it at home!

Re: Team Update 4-9 & VEX BAG Motor Fix

Is this problem only with BAG motors from the KOP? If I bought a motor from VEX right now would it have this problem?

Thanks.

The problem affects lot numbers 2491BL, 2462BL, and 2493BL. You can find your lot number as the bottom line of information printed on the motor. We are not shipping motors from these lots.

I see no where in the update where it says "you can take the robot out of the bag" so no you can't perform it at home if you want to attend another event.......

And, as a COTS part, one could have kept it out of the bag, and it wouldn't count against the withholding.

Unless it was part of an assembled assembly, in which case it becomes a FABRICATED COMPONENT.

Kind of. As part of an assembly, it would count against the 30 lb limit.

However, if it is removed from the assembly, and hadn't been modified (if it had, it is already a fabricated item, and the issue becomes moot), then it is still considered a COTS item. [ref - Q464 in the Q&A]
