I believe that fellow West Virginia team 337 won their second RCA at Crossroads Regional this weekend.

I know that. But almost every year 27 and 503 won a DCA, they took the RCA at States. I still think DCA winners should be put on the list in a different section. Achieving a DCA is just as challenging as the RCA.

There are some notable teams that are NOT on this list this year, which will make guessing the winner that much more interesting.....or just more predictable.

Congratulations to all that have won on this list!

Don't discount FRC 1538 and 604. Quixilver's program is pretty strong.

There's a lot of teams that have built very strong programs that will contend this year. To me, this seems like the deepest WCA field to date.

True that! I'd hate to be a CA judge this year. They will have their hands full!

I wonder what would happen if the WCA judges had a deadlock and couldnt pick just one team.

I'd place my money on 27 and 503 as well. Both teams have had repeated success in the Michigan District system and are certainly some of the most decorated Chairman's Award winning teams. I believe 27 has amassed 7 RCAs and 4 DCAs and 503 has snagged 7 RCAs, 5 DCAs, and a Honorable Mention at Worlds in 2006 or so.

I saw both of their programs as well as the other DCA winners this year when I went with my wife to the MSC. Both teams there had absolutely fantastic and inspiring stories and content. Blew me away

Coin flip?

One of the reasons that I'm not a fan of having multiple judge rooms for presentations. Teams have to rely on their judges to 'sell' their program to the other sets of judges.

As an alumni of team 27, and someone with friends who graduated from 503, 33, and some other great FiM teams, I have to agree with you. (And yes, I will be biased here even though I'm trying not to be)

There are many things that teams like 503, 27, 33, and awesome up-and-comers like 2337 do above and beyond in FiM and outside of it. But it's not always the "big name" teams doing this alone, there's a lot of inspiration (at least there was to me) from teams and people I (and the teams) have interacted with.

For example, when I was on Team RUSH, in 2011, we hosted a rookie team (3534, then Team Gizmo, now House of Cards) in our shop. It was an enlightening experience for me, a junior at the time. I hope someone from 3534 will read this, because I want to say that working with them, as weird as it may sound, motivated me to educate people about FIRST more, and inspire existing participants to continue on and inspire others. I would say that every rookie team has it tough, so coming from a team that operates like a well-oiled machine year after year, it was like a wake up call saying that there ARE teams out there that need(ed) help getting started.

And cheering for other teams. Cheering for the accomplishments of others is what made FIRST what it was for me. That's the point of this long and semi-off-topic post. No matter who wins the "big one" this year, I will feel inspired, as I always have, by their accomplishments and achievements, but also by who they interacted with to get there. It's not one team doing all the work, it's every other team they've competed with, competed against, built with, shared ideas with, and just had FUN with, helping them along the way. Of course I'd love to see 27 win it, but to be honest, I'd be happy if 503 won, or even teams I've never seen or heard of, like 604 or 2080.

FIRST is about inspiration. Every team I've ever seen has inspired me in some way. From the one-person team this year, to the stories of the original 28 in 1992.

My advice: don't let an award shape your team - if you do that you'll never be happy (And you'll never win ). Let your members shape your team, let your mentors shape your team, and let other teams shape your team.

Yes, that was a jumble of thoughts. Props if you read it all.

Congrats to all RCA winners, and a personal congratulations to team 525.

Swartdogs, that RCA was well overdue. You guys deserved it.

Whenever Chairman's Award winners are announced, my palms sweat and my fingers get tingly. It's like Christmas morning and waiting to see if Santa got you that soldering iron you wanted

Winning a MSC or or DCA in Michigan is actually much more competitive with so many teams, amazing engineers/mentors associated with the Big 3 in Detroit, and the inspiration that drives these teams as a result of these kinds of mentors who have worked with so many other companies from around the area. 27 and 503 are definitely an inspiration growing up in the area. I don't know much about 2337 and their programs, as they is part of a newer generation, though I'm sure they are on their way to achieving a wonderful chairmans worthy team. From what I heard, they're a great bunch of kids too! I graduated from the area many years ago, and have just been amazingly blessed to have such a family and team behind me every step of the way. It's not just about the award, the team or mentors, but the legacy the team brings to the table because they are inspired by the mentors, the innovation in Detroit and all the its supporters. It may be a competitive area, so it just makes the innovate and find more inspiration to go above and beyond and I think that's what happened to all their students in the video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P-EwzgF0-w
