Re: Team 862 scouting database
This is just a suggestion:
I have an idea on an way to input match data. I made an outline of how the excel sheet could look like. Since I do not know how to make macros I did not put them on the buttons. (File is in the attachment) Description of how it could work: (I am not sure how to do it but, I think it would work best if the data could be collected from multiple devices and then it gets inserted into the appropriate locations on the master database) The user inserts the match number and then a drop-down list gives the user the choice of 1 of the 6 teams (this would give the macro a location to put the data). Then there could be a button the person presses after they put in the match and team numbers to confirm the team that they are scouting. After that it is pretty strait forward. The background button is shots missed and (for the climbing section) if they failed the climb (there can be another button if they didn't attempt the climb). Also you can add a button to time the robot's climb. If you want to be creative you can make buttons transparent and put them pictures above a picture of the pyramid/goal (I think it would only work with the pyramid though). |

Re: Team 862 scouting database
Honestly I am not sure if I could do that. Our team uses paper scouting plus this database. Also I barely know how to use macros. Basically, I know how to record actions into a macro, use macros I find on the internet, and some very basic commands.
If you can find someone who could do this, that would be great. I would be glad to add any improvements and updates. Unfortunately, this database is made in such a way that any changes made to how you input data (changing the raw data tab) and you might as well make a completely new database from scratch because all the tabs are connected to each other and are very easily disrupted. Their are plenty of programs that do exactly what you are talking about. The whole point of this database is to have very simple, basic input and output that allows you to make the most of what you scout. There are programs have high tech input and output but are also complicated to edit and change. Maybe next year I will find a way to merge the two but there is no way I could make such drastic changes by champs. Thanks for the suggestions and hope someone can use them. |

Re: Team 862 scouting database
No problem. I just thought of that idea because some people aren't that great at collecting data and it takes a heck of a long time to input all of the numbers for each match (especially for the championship).

Re: Team 862 scouting database
I completely understand. Our scouting team includes 5 people who all do different jobs to make sure everything goes smoothly and quickly. We make the rest of the team do actual match and pit scouting. We have one person inputting data into the computer. 2 people making sure all the sheets get handed out or given back. one person make sure the sheets are in order for the most efficient input into the computer. And the head scouter (me) who makes sure everyone is doing their job, helps any person who needs help, watches matches and takes notes, and gets data to the drivers. This works because our team is huge (over 70 students) so we can distribute the load and let everyone take a rest. We don't have any dedicated match scouters because of this. I understand that some small teams may have problems so I would suggest to those small teams to possibly team up with another team to get enough scouters. Even our team did that at the Michigan State Competition (with 3641 because they didn't have enough scouters). The positive of doing this is that involves cooperation, coopertition, and gracious professionalism.
