Buttons?

This will be my FIRST Championship and the sheer amount of buttons is going to be hard to wrap my head around. At my regional, I would normally collect all of the buttons. World however, will be a new challenge. What I was wondering however was how you hold them all? Do you just have a big sheet or bag? I've seen capes as one method... What are some methods to holding all the buttons you collect?

Also: I am a volunteer. Is it alright for Volunteers to wear buttons / weird hats, or is there some dress code?

Re: Buttons?

As for hauling those buttons around all weekend long, string bags are the way to go. Last year there were a few sponsors/companies who were handing out string bags at their booths in the pits.
Last year our team issued out string-bags to hold all the "Swag" teams would hand out at regionals/districts/worlds...

Last year for their picture representing volunteers FIRST had a picture of a young lady so decked out in swag with button beads and a colorful hat she looked more like she was going to Madi Gras than working a FIRST competition and it was wonderful.
The only thing FIRST would give you a hard time about is if you didn't wear your volunteer shirt (you're on Team FIRST now) and you wore sandals or something down on the field.

Re: Buttons?

I gotta say, when looking at the list of tasks and costs getting ready for CMPs, buttons were one of the first things to go.

If we were a well-funded team, we could just say "and a thousand buttons!"

With 400 teams, even that number wouldn't be enough. We could have made 300 to 400, I suppose, but hey...priorities!
