The music and PA at the events has always been too loud. It is well above the sound level allowed in work settings without requiring hearing protection.

For years, I have used ear plugs while in the stands at the events. It not only protects what is left of my hearing, but with ear plugs, it is easier to understand people talking to me.

Re: FIRST Making it TOO Loud

The sound level of the music, play by play and game announcements, depended on where you were sitting. On the Curie field we had to sit off to the side so far that we could not hear what was happening on the Curie Field. However the sound from the other field was way louder than it needed to be. Watching one field from a bad spot and hearing another field from a spot that you could not even see the field. Then during Einstein our team ended up in the nose bleed seats and they could not hear anything or see even the videos.
The Einstein problem could be solved if Einstein was set up in the long side of the dome like it was in Atlanta. That way more people could see it without having to go so high up in the arena.
If it's too loud, then I have to side with the ear plug group

The problem stems from how the JBL line arrays were hanging.
I don't have the time to draw a picture, but there were 3 areas where the sound system was going to be a lot louder than the rest, and it sounds like you were in one of those hot zones.

Dean may have been saying some inspirational things, but I have no clue what they might have been.

And many times, on Curie field, I could hear the FTC games and announcements much more clearly and loudly than our own matches.

Re: FIRST Making it TOO Loud

Yeah...the FTC fields did have the best sound setup for some reason that I can't explain....

Re: FIRST Making it TOO Loud

Seriously, why are we even talking about ear plugs?

It is almost certainly at a level that hearing can be lost which for a safety culture of FIRST is completely unacceptable.

If I stopped by as a member of the public, I would just leave.

I could hear Archimedes better than I could hear Curie from the Curie stands.
