Team Websites

What do you look for in other team's websites?

What do you like and dislike about these sites?

Do you go to some sites because of special features?

What about your team's site?

Well, the thing is, it's a team website... hence, I don't really expect much in terms of current robot pictures or some info. I may want some background info on the team, but not else. However, when considering my own team, I want latest announcements, upcoming meeting times, important dates, and a private forum for team only discussions. I'd also like a place to post pictures of the robot for people on the team to see if they can't attend a meeting.

Well, I go to my team's website to get the meeting dates and such, so as a member, I'd be looking for something fast. I don't really care that we have an immensely cool looking website with 4 billion features. Just get me to the calendar. Now. (Not really a dis to any websites. Just impatience)

When looking at other people's websites, it would mainly depend on what I'm there for. If I'm just looking around, I want to see something thats continually updated (tells me the team actually accomplishes things) coupled with a nice fast layout. Maybe a quickee about page....

The only reason I look at other teams' websites (outside of looking at their layout and offering suggestions) is because of special features. (Such as the ChiefDelphi forum)

I remember some teams built some very impressive looking Flash heavy sites last year but they weren't very practical.
The site should give information on the team and it's history. Show off some of it's accomplishments and designs. Animation if they do it. Nothing really complicated. We don't need a forum to post meeting times and such. We have a private Yahoo group to do that.

Team 891 page

If anyone's tried to look at 891's page, you'll find that the link on FIRST doesn't work. Our district web server has been down since last Saturday so we were forced to mirror on Brinkster. Everything's up there 'cept our pictures - does anyone know of a free web hosting site w/o banners AND provides FTP access? Brinkster has a web-based five files-at a time form that gets a little painstaking of a process with 500+ files...

891 Main page (might be running soon, hopefully): http://chaos.syracuseschools.net

891 Mirror (while main server not functional, may be maintained...):
http://www33.brinkster.com/first891/

Any comments/suggestions on this one let me know
acknight@tirebiter.net (Aaron Knight, team webmaster)

Thanx

I want a website that looks good in my browsers! I use things from Lynx to Opera...and about 5 other ones in between. If you can make it look decent in all of those, I applaud you. As for content, I look for recent news about your progress...maybe some pictures (but I can understand if you don't want to release your info)...certainly events you're travelling to and other things like that. I'm sorry to say that I dislike my teams page (www.team84.org)...it goes against everything I believe a webpage should be. It hasn't been updated since last year...it has no news about this years robot or anything. It's very, very sad :/
