I echo this sentiment but in question form.

From my research of the IRI site* (I did research before asking a question on CD..blasphemous i know) the competition was started in 2000 and then became truly an invitational when in "2008, some teams applying to compete at IRI were not invited".

So, is 2008 when the 'modern era' of IRI began? Modern era meaning that it has recognition as the most prestigious off-season event and it is event that has competition level that matches Einstein. Or rather, how did it achieve such a status? (sorry/not sorry to sidetrack the thread onto its own history)


*side note to the webmaster(s) of the IRI website: I really like your site. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for very, very quickly.
