Go to Post If we can transform our culture to the point where girls swoon over guys as they pull their dremel off their belt and carve some speed holes in a smooth fluid motion, I think FIRST is half way to its goal. When we get the guys to swoon over the girls for their hot moves on the 5-axis, we have won. - EricVanWyk [more]

Boston College High School Seeking FRC Team Lead

Below is an excerpt of a letter seeking to find a mentor for the BC High FRC Team.
My name is Mike Brennan and I am the Vice-Principal for Student Affairs at BC High. I write to you today for some advice, wisdom, insight and ultimately a favor request I suppose.

Two years ago we started a FIRST Robotics Team and we have had some tremendous success in a short time, but we have had too much turn-over in our Lead Mentor position. As we seek some stability in the position, I am reaching out to the local community with the hopes of broadening our network. Currently, it is apparent that our next Lead Mentor will not come from within our teaching faculty, which is fine, but it leaves me at a dead-end or two.

We have an extremely committed and talented student base and a very enthusiastic and supportive parent group and we are excited to move forward and grow the program, but we need a leader. I was hoping that you might have some insight, ideas or experience with FIRST that would help us move this search forward and perhaps help us expand our reach even further.
...
Please feel free to pass this along to anyone that you think might be interested.

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Mike Brennan
Joe J here again. I was a co-founder of this team. I have been involved both years. I plan to continue to support the team in any way that I can. I think this is awesome that BC High recognizes that they need to have a strong leader from the school as well as parents and outside mentors. It speaks volumes that they are putting their money where their mouth is with respect to hiring someone when they could not find someone from within their ranks.

BC High has worked hard to provide the team an environment where they can succeed. They've provided a dedicated robot building space as well as a small shop area with hand tools as well as a lathe, mill, bandsaw, drill press, etc.

If you or someone you know wants to lead a FIRST that is destined to be a Hall of Fame caliber team one day, please contact Mr. Brennan.

Thanks,
Joe J.
