[FTC]: Summer robotics

Hi I'm in charge of another robotics team called BEST. Our main captain which include myself and others are going to be hosting a small camp as a test run for next year. In this camp we will be helping our students get ready for BEST by teaching them engineering and stuff according to those lines. (I'm in engineering but i'm the head captain of the overall team but I focus on Business) So we have a 3 FTC KOP lying around at the school and we were wondering is their any simple robots that the students can build to compete in a mini competition. their are 10 students we are planning on making 3 to a team then forming a super team of 4.
I originally got this idea of having a mini competition idea from a local robotics camp that was going on. They had vex kits that had a lot of parts and they had an instruction manual to build a clawbot from their students could make what ever they like to win the competition and the game was cleansweep. Our students will have 5 days were they can work for 2.5 hours a day. So simple robots that they can build and a game would be excellent. Thanks

Re: [FTC]: Summer robotics

I've got a game for ya, maybe a little simple but it'll work.

The game piece: A bunch of golf balls. (Let's just say 16, number can be varied to suit field size.)
The field: A large-ish flat area with a border. When I last did this game, 4'x8' with a 4" high border worked just fine (16 golf balls, 2 robots at a time).
The scoring area: We used golf practice cups, like you might find for indoor putting practice on any random floor. Something like that, or some sort of bin/box with one side mostly cut away.
The object: End up with more golf balls in your goals than your opponent.
The rules:
--Matches are X minutes long, say about 2.
--No intentionally disabling/damaging/etc. your opponent. (To make this one tricky, require a "shutoff" switch in an easy-to-hit location on the robot--don't hit your opponents's switch!)
--Descoring is LEGAL, if you can do it.

I've seen this one done with VEX "squarebots" with minor modifications to the robots (fixed herding jaws being the one I remember the most). If you want more complexity, change the goal type from flat-ish and open to a deep box with a hole in the side near the bottom, big enough to put a small ramp in but not big enough for a robot to go into.

Whether intentional or not, that's the exact size of an FLL table. No need to build a new field.
