Angry music in the pitss

Does anyone relize that this year there can be NO music in the pit area? Two years ago we made a robot ambulance that had a great sound system. And know I read that we can't use it!! Does anyone have any views on this?

Does this mean I can't sing in the pits? Because that would be an injustice to humanity.

But seriously, no music at all? I missed that rule. It seems like it couldn't possibly exist.

When I am around the robots, I just gotta hear some kind of do-doo-do-doo-do do-doo-do-do-doo and some such.

Where in the rules does it say no pit music?

ehehehe - that one... event... at the NYC regional probably helped in making this rule. For those of you who weren't there, at the NYC regional, the pit announcer was, well, I guess you could call her a New Yorker at heart. Really impatient, really rude, and really getting on everyone's nerves ("Hey Team Blah-bleh-blah, C'MON, YOU'RE LATE, LET'S GOOOOO, LETS GET ON WITH IT!!!!!"). At one point, one of the teams cranked their stereo-cart-system up pretty loud... soon she comes on - "Whoever's playing that music, turn it down!" The team - whoever they were - just cranked it louder. "TURN IT DOWN!" It just went louder. Suddenly everyone in the pits began cheering for the team because they were defying that announcer who was so impatient and so rude to everyone. The story ends when finally the team did turn their system down, most likely from the interfearence from a mentor.

Actually, I just found a picture that my friend took of this lady. Don't be fooled by it - although she looks like a nice friendly grandmother, she has a really harsh tongue.

That woman brings up bad memories... when our team got to the Canadian regional, it felt as thought it was near quite after that woman screamed constantly at us.

Our manual says, "no loud audio systems..." doesn't say NO music.

FIRST just doesn't want loud sounds/noises to disrupt other teams from working efficiently. If you play music at a reasonable sound level, it should be fine. Once it gets too loud, then it might be annoying.

Thats nothing.

Team 19 was positiioned 3 feet directly in front of her. She would scream and scream and scream. Even when she was talking to us, she would yell it over the mic rather than to us.

Brings back memories.

I personally think it's an excellent rule.

I find it extremely annoying when teams announce the entering and exiting of their robot with loud music. It may get your team pumped for your next match, but it makes everyone else pissed off. Those of you with excessively loud audio systems obviously have not dealt with the gracious part of gracious professionalism.

With over 40 robots at most regionals you can create an audio nightmare. That's obviously what happened during the NYC regional, and everyone acted with gracious professionalism there didn't they?

now, is it NO music or no LOUD music? because last year our team played music in the pits but it wasnt really loud, just enough so our team could hear it...being that we played it from a portable CD player and a poor set of computer speakers it wasnt really loud anyways. would this be allowable this year or would that be a no-no?

I think this is also for the incessantly annoying "Who Let The Dogs Out" every 20 minutes. That was at the canadian regional, not sure which team. Had a big boom box and were blasting music in the stands for the most part. Is this rule for pits or for whole stadiums?
