Axis Camera Issues

When I plug my camera into the power cord that we have connected to the bot the camera does not come on. I used a voltmeter to check and make sure the PDB was giving off 5 volts...it was...I checked the end of the camera cord to see if it was delivering 5 volts....it was.

The camera is not wired backwards so I'm pretty sure we didn't fry it.

This is exactly what happened to a camera we had last year, it just wouldn't power it on. We assumed it was the camera but really had no clue. We bought another one and it worked for a while but now when I try to get it to work it won't.

Any solutions?
Thank you!

Re: Axis Camera Issues

When you try to power on the camera, do lights appear around the lens and, if so, what color are they? I seriously doubt you fried it, but it is possible.

Re: Axis Camera Issues

There are status lights on the back of the camera too that can help tell what's going on.

Is the polarity of the 5v barrel connector correct (center positive)?

Re: Axis Camera Issues

There are absolutely no lights that come on when I plug the power cord into it. I checked the polarity too and it was correct.

Re: Axis Camera Issues

Sounds like the camera is burned then.

If you still have the wall transformer that came with the camera (and didn't cut it off to use just the connector on the robot) you can try that as a last resort test.

Re: Axis Camera Issues

I agree with the post above. It sounds like it is burned out. That is unfortunate. It could be worse though; you could have fried your cRIO.

Re: Axis Camera Issues

Luckily cRIOs are considerably harder to fry. They sizzle for quite some time before that happens.

Also, you may want to use a multimeter to verify that the voltage being provided to the camera is what you think it is -- especially before connecting another.
