Actually, team 1540 (flaming chickens) has been doing an event exactly like this in Portland, OR since 2010 - Girls Generation. Last year, team 2046 (bear metal) hosted a Seattle spinoff as well.
It's been a very successful event since it started, with many teams returning year after year for the sole purpose of inspiring their rookie girls, many of whom would otherwise decide against robotics. If you'd like any advice, feel free to ask us!
