The trouble with the American car companies is they are so busy making trucks that they have gaping holes in their car offerings. If you want a sporty, but utilitarian rear drive car that will carry items of cargo like RC airplanes, the American companies don't have it. I recently bought a slightly used Lexus IS300 Sport Cross. It is Toyota's competition for the BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class. It has a high tech inline 6 engine, independent rear suspension, and handles like a very good sports car, but has about 6 feet of cargo floor with the back seats folded down. It looks a little funny at the back, but it drives as well as a BMW 330 sedan.

If one ot the "big three" made something like it, I would have considered it, but for now at least, trucks are the high priority items for the American companies.
