Re: IROC 2013 - Nov 2nd, 2013

We had a great time at the IROC. Our rookie drive team showed continuous improvement through the competition. Plus, we finally got our 5 disk autonomous mode to work in a competition setting. As an added bonus, we had our first ever 1st seed position after qualifications.

We were impressed by both the high level of play at the competition, and by the low number of committed penalties. The competitiveness felt more like a regional than an off-season competition.

The innovation of having the 1st seed play the 8th seed 2 robots to 3 robots in the quarter finals was very cool. I'd love to see this model propagated throughout regional competition. It is also cool to be able to pick your third alliance partner after the QF matches finish, giving everyone else a chance to 'resurrect'. We still prefer reverse round robin picking order better than two rounds where the highest seeded teams pick first, though.

All in all, a great event.

For those interested, I have a playlist of matches in which we played here.

There were team photos being taken at the competition. Does anyone know where these can be found online?
