We are not forming actual alliances that have to play together, so who you get in an early round has little/no bearing on who you draft later on IMO. A list is simply a ranking of which teams you feel will garner the most points under the following criteria.
I've always preferred to make lists, but there's an argument to be made for drafting live. Thoroughly making a list requires comparing every team to every other team. When drafting live, it's about as effective to use a list based on some objective criteria (say, fantasy points scored per event the previous year) and comparing the top few teams on that list. This takes significantly less time without losing a large amount of effectiveness.

The four reasons you point out are also contributing factors.
