Our team uses Arduino both for training and with our robot. We always use gyroscopes, accelerometers, and other sensors that require customized circuits and protocols for fetching data. Our team has been thinking about developing shields and library code that independent developers as well as FIRST teams could use with Arduino for a variety of components. What do you guys think about this?
I actually work on a dual rotor flying vehicle that I am trying to slim down with a custom brushless motor shield and accelerometer/gyro shield. (If you want a look at it,
here it is). I haven't gotten too far yet, so it is in quite a disheveled state.

FIRST is difficult and it is challenging, but you aren’t necessarily required to go off and build an 8 motor drivetrain and 4 motor / 8 pneumatic piston arm mechanism for the heck of it when a 2 motor non-shifting drivetrain and 2 motor arm does just as good a job. - Bill Gold [more]
